NSSA Constitution

Before applying for an executive position, we encourage all applicants to familiarize themselves with the National Songhai Students Association (NASSA) Constitution. This document outlines the principles, values, and governance structure that guide our association.

As stated in Chapter 1, Article 1: "This Constitution shall be the supreme law governing the National Songhai Students Association. Any policy, by-law, or decision of any officer, committee, or organ of the association that is inconsistent with this Constitution shall be null and void to the extent of the inconsistency."

Eligibility Requirements

Executive Position Qualifications

According to Chapter 7, Article 16 of the NASSA Constitution

Eligibility Criteria
  • Candidates must be regular members of the association in good standing for at least one year prior to the election.
  • Candidates must be tertiary students in good standing in their various institutions at the time of filing for nomination.
  • Candidates must not be in their first year or final year at the time of filing for nomination.
  • Post-Graduate students can file for nomination in their first and final year.
  • Candidates must demonstrate commitment to the objectives of the association and possess the necessary qualifications for the position they are contesting.
  • Candidates with any pending disciplinary cases or who have been found guilty of misconduct in the past year are ineligible to run for office.

Executive Committee Roles

According to Chapter 4, Article 5 of the NASSA Constitution

President

Provides overall leadership and strategic direction for the association, presides over all meetings, and represents the association in external matters.

Vice-President

Assists the President in the discharge of duties and acts as President in their absence, oversees committee work, and leads special projects.

General Secretary

Maintains all official records, documents, and correspondences, prepares notices and minutes, and manages the membership database.

Financial Secretary

Oversees financial affairs, prepares financial reports, ensures proper accounting of funds, and works closely with the Treasurer.

Treasurer

Manages the association's funds, maintains financial records, works with the Financial Secretary on budgets, and authorizes expenditures.

Public Relations Officer

Manages the public image and communication, handles media relations, coordinates information dissemination, and oversees online platforms.

Women Commissioner

Represents the interests of female members, develops women-focused programs, advocates for gender equality, and integrates gender perspectives.

Imam

Provides spiritual guidance and religious leadership to members, leads prayers at events, and advises on Islamic matters.
