The Songhai Students Association (SSA) was founded on June 10, 2024, by four university students and one graduate student, primarily from University of Ghana. Initially established for university students, SSA later opened its membership to all Songhai students across Ghana and worldwide. The association is officially registered under Ghana's Registrar General with the following details:
Registration Number: CG086241124
TIN: C0064850242
Certified under the Companies Act, 2019 (Act 992)
To encourage education within our communities, particularly addressing low literacy rates among the girl child, and to unite Songhai students from all institutions and regions.
We proudly represent the three main ethnic groups of Songhai people: Zabarma, Dendi, and Ayneha, fostering a community committed to academic success and cultural pride.
We warmly welcome and register new members who are eager to join SSA and participate in our programs.
Members can request official testimonials and introductory letters to support their academic or professional needs.
We organize fundraising activities to sustain our association's projects and expand our reach.
Our charitable efforts include donating educational materials to community schools and assisting vulnerable students with fees. During Ramadan, we support Muslim communities by providing donations to help break their fast. We also assist members financially during personal milestones, such as weddings.
We are dedicated to preserving our cultural heritage, promoting historical knowledge, and encouraging education within the Songhai communities.
We arrange educational trips to key Songhai-populated areas, including Kasoa, Central Region, Kaneshi Zabarma line, Accra, Sawaba, Aberim, Kumasi, Takoradi, Cape Coast, among others.
SSA stands ready to respond to any attacks or discrimination against our tribe by organizing press conferences and demanding justice within legal frameworks.
SSA conducts interviews with members willing to share their educational journeys and challenges, showcasing inspiring stories to encourage the Songhai community globally.
